Heavy Seas’ Yule Tide Very Different This Year

Heavy Seas Beer, Baltimore, said this year’s “Yule Tide” seasonal beer will be very different from last year’s Imperial Red Ale when it is issued in November.

This year’s Yule Tide was aged for eight weeks in Jamaican Rum barrels. It’s a German-style Weizen DoppleBock that is said to offer a full malt body dominated by biscuit, caramel, raisin and chocolate notes. Rum barrel aging imparts a rich buttery rum character along with oaken vanilla notes. Banana- and clove-like esters generated by the Bavarian ale yeast lend a fruity, spicy complexity to this hefty brew.
